Title Further research on the design of complex grids
Year 2011

Abstract

Grid or matrix questions are popular in Web surveys. Yet, there is evidence that they are associated with higher breakoff rates, more missing data and more correlated measurement error, straightlining, and nondifferentiation (higher satisficing). The question is whether it is grids per se that are the problem, or the way they are designed. Our research has been focused on how the design of grids may affect respondent behavior.
